About Us

The Sub Pool was built by people who know the orchestral world from the inside - musicians and personnel managers who've experienced the challenges of substitute hiring firsthand. We're here to make the process clearer, faster, and more professional for everyone involved.

Our Team

Thomas Zera
Founder (B.M., M.M., MBA, LoAO Essentials)
Thomas is a Juilliard trained musician with both 25 years of experience as a tenured Bassist with the Utah Symphony and an accomplished freelance musician with 21 major U.S. orchestras on his CV over a 35 year performance career. In addition to his musical accomplishments, Thomas is a business owner and holds an MBA from Isenberg School of Management. He is a League of American Orchestras Essentials program certificate holder and has served in arts management as Executive Director.
Carrie Marcantonio
Symphonic Personnel Specialist
Carrie is a union-aligned symphonic personnel specialist with 20+ years administering AFM Collective Bargaining Agreements, protecting musician rights, resolving grievances, and safeguarding working conditions in major U.S. orchestras. Her experience as Director of Orchestra Personnel within the U.S. Symphonic community offers direct insight into substitute musician workflows and personnel management systems.
Jennifer Mersis
Executive Producer
Jennifer is an Executive Producer with a background in agency and post-production leadership. She brings an operator's mindset to a long-standing challenge in the orchestral world: outdated, fragmented subbing processes that create unnecessary friction for both musicians and Personnel Managers. Drawing on her experience managing complex schedules, talent rosters, and fast-moving productions, Jennifer focuses on building musician-first tools that prioritize clarity, opt-in participation, and professional autonomy.
